Clean Re-Install Story (Big Sur)
To hide filename extensions in macOS Sequoia (or any macOS version), go to Finder > Settings > Advanced and deselect "Show all filename extensions". Here's a more detailed explanation: Open Finder: Navigate to the Finder application on your Mac. Access Settings: Go to Finder in the menu bar and select "Settings" (or "Preferences" in older macOS versions). Go to Advanced: Click on the "Advanced" tab within the Finder Settings. Deselect "Show all filename extensions": Locate the checkbox labeled "Show all filename extensions" and uncheck it. Individual File Override: Note that you can also override this setting for individual files by selecting the file, choosing "File > Get Info", and then checking or unchecking "Hide extension" in the Info window.
